The friendships reach way back, but joining forces as Commodore Callahan is a relatively recent project for Don Kane (bass, clarinet, vocals, music); Lauren Speeth (lyrics, vocals, backup instruments); and Josh Workman (guitar, synth, vocals). Coming from diverse musical backgrounds, the members of Commodore Callahan have embarked on a unified mission to support nonprofit fundraisers, uplift spirits, and spread social awareness through music. The songs they write and record tackle issues such as youth mental health, abuse and incarceration (Rough Justice), homelessness (Such a Crime), blindness to poverty (In Canada), recovery (Resurrection), and even Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (Wave Rider). The style has been described as upbeat and spiritual, with a slight retro, '70s feel. The group's Love is Here CD debut was, appropriately, held at a fundraiser… for Boys Hope Girls Hope, for which the group dedicated their single, Garden in my Soul.
